A historic journey still being written
TARRA SIMMONS
Tarra Simmons has spent her life turning hard-won experience into a commitment to change what is possible for others. From being the first in her family to graduate college, to becoming a Registered Nurse in Washington State, to surviving incarceration and winning a historic victory in the Washington Supreme Court that paved the way for her to become a lawyer. Tarra has never stopped showing up for people who too often go unheard. She went on to make history as the nation’s first formerly incarcerated state legislator.
Today, she brings that same determination to the Legislature and to communities across the 23rd Legislative District. She fights for opportunity, justice, and a Washington where everyone has the chance to thrive, not just because it is the right thing to do, but because this is Tarra’s home. It’s where she was grew-up, raised her two sons, and where she now has a growing family of grandchildren, pets, and her own dog, Hope.
This is personal for Tarra. The 23rd Legislative District is home.
